Its gripping plot, the cracker of a twist, and some mesmerising performances led by Mohanlal ensured that Thudarum reigned supreme among other Malayalam releases. As we await Thudarum’s big OTT release, let’s check out the reasons as to why you should watch Mohanlal-Tharun Moorthy’s latest Malayalam revenge thriller.

Thudarum: Why watch Mohanlal-Tharun Moorthy’s film on OTT

Thudarum’s thrilling plot

Thudarum, penned by KR Sunil, narrates the tale of ‘Benz’ Shanmugham, a cab driver in a small town in Kerala, who leads a happy life with his wife and two children - Pavi and Pavithra. His black ambassador is dear to him and when Pavi’s pals take the car out for a ride, Benz is left fuming. His cab is seized by the police, it sparks of a series of incidents that appear to be not connected to him in any way before the big reveal at the interval point. Even while scripting a revenge thriller, Thudarum has enough and more family moments that make us root for Benz and his loved ones.

Tharun Moorthy’s impeccable direction

After the acclaimed Saudi Vellakka and Operation Java, Tharun Moorthy helms Thudarum and ensures that his first collaboration with Mohanlal remains a cinematic gem. Fans are especially ecstatic about how Tharun, who has also co-written the screenplay, was able to bring back the vintage Mohanlal back to our screen after a hiatus.

That Mohanlal is an actor par excellence is an accepted fact across film industries. But Thudarum allows Mohanlal to be both the likeable family man and a father who is seeking revenge after his family is wronged. The initial parts of the film are buoyed by the past references to yesteryear Mohanlal classics, while the second half is powered by his raw action and performances

Thudarum reunites Mohanlal and Shobana, one of the iconic onscreen pairs of Malayalam cinema. It is a delight to see Mohanlal and Shobana back on screen as a couple, and it was one of the most highlighted factors before Thudarum's release. Even while engaging in fun banter and lovely moments, Benz and Lalitha also silently reach out to one another when the family faces an unprecedented crisis.

Even when you have Mohanlal as the lead, Thudarum would probably also be remembered for marking the acting debut of Prakash Varma. The popular ad filmmaker dons the role of the vile George Sir, a cop, who brilliantly hides his evil nature behind an ever-smiling face. Prakash Varma almost matches steps with Mohanlal, which is in no way a mean feat as The Complete Actor has been ruling the industry for more than four decades.

Binu Pappu, Farhaan Faasil, and Thomas Mathew play other key roles that leave a mark. Maniyanpilla Raju, Ilavarasu and Irshad, among several others, also do justice to their roles.
