After a record-breaking run at the box office, Malayalam blockbuster Thudarum, which has Mohanlal, Prakash Varma and Shobana in lead roles, is all set to drop on JioHotstar. The streaming platform made the announcement through its official social media accounts, while also revealing the languages the film will be available for streaming in as well as its release date.
Thudarum, which is directed by Saudi Vellakka and Operation Java’s Tharun Moorthy and co-scripted by KR Sunil and its filmmaker, had hit theatres on April 25 - almost a month after Lucifer’s sequel L2: Empuraan become the first Malayalam film to break the Rs 200 Cr box office barrier this year, which also saw superhit films such as Asif Ali's Rekhachithram and Kunchacko Boban's Officer On Duty releasing.

Thudarum, which had faced challenges in terms of its OTT right pre-release, hit theatres without much hype. But right from its first day, the film enjoyed a golden run, with it recovering Rs 100 Cr from Kerala box office alone - a feat that has not been achieved by any Malayalam film so far. The film, which also has Binu Pappu, Thomas Mathew and Maniyanpilla Raju in pivotal roles, went on to gross over Rs 200 Cr at global box office.
Thudarum will drop on JioHotstar on May 30 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. L2: Empuraan’s OTT rights were also bagged by JioHotstar earlier this year.
Mohanlal essays the role of a former stuntman turned taxi driver, named Shanmugham also known as Benz for his love for cars. After his prized Ambassador car is impounded by the cops, it sets off a chain of events that disrupt the happy life of his family overnight.
Apart from Mohanlal’s performance, the movie also great music by Jakes Bejoy, an outstanding debut by Prakash Varma who essays its antagonist, CI George, and a layered screenplay. It’s an absolute must-watch for every Mohanlal fan and especially those who have loved Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam.
