Prakash Varma made a stellar acting debut with the Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum, which is continuing its successful run at the Kerala box office. The film, helmed by Operation Java director Tharun Moorthy, featured Prakash Varma as the menacing George Sir, the vile villain of Thudarum, who takes on the cab driver Benz Shanmugham (Mohanlal). Prakash Varma has now spoken about why he requested Tharun Moorthy not to give him any combination scenes with the Lucifer star first up.
Prakash Varma, a renowned ad filmmaker, came in front of a movie camera for the first time to play the villainous George Sir in Thudarum. Tharun Moorthy’s third directorial after the award-winning Saudi Vellakka also featured Shobana paired opposite Mohanlal. In a recent interview with The Cue Studio, Prakash Varma was asked about doing this many combination scenes with Mohanlal, the celebrated Complete Actor of Malayalam.
Tharun Moorthy said that he requested Tharun Moorthy not to put him in combination scenes with Mohanlal or Shobana first up.
" I told him not to put me with Mohanlal, Shoban or or other senior actors, whom we have all grown up watching. Especially, with Lalettan, there are many combination scenes. First, take some solo (shots) of me and let me get used to it. And Tharun respectfully did this," Prakash Varma remarked.
However, he quickly added that once Tharun felt that Prakash had got the hang of ‘George sir’ on the very first day, the young director put him in the scene with Shobana, Maniyanpilla Raju, and most of the other cast. Prakash added ‘he was set’ after that long scene, when George Sir came knocking at night, asking about Benz.
Thudarum is Mohanlal’s second release of the year 2025, after the much-hyped Empuraan, the Lucifer sequel. Compared to Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated film, Thudarum hardly had any star-studded promotional events. Despite this, Thudarum became a raging success in the box office, with fans hailing it as the return of vintage Lalettan.
