Thudarum: Tharun Moorthy spills beans about Mohanlal’s common man avatar and more | Watch VIDEO

Thudarum, the upcoming Malayalam film, marks the first collaboration between Mohanlal and director Tharun Moorthy. The filming of the project, which is touted to be a family drama, was wrapped up in Kerala a few weeks ago. As reported earlier, Thudarum is slated to hit the theatres on January 30, 2025, as Mohanlal’s first release of next year. Meanwhile, in a recently released making video, director Tharun Moorthy opened up about the project, and working with the legendary superstar.

Thudarum making video is out

The makers of Thudarum recently kickstarted the promotions of the upcoming Mohanlal starrer, by releasing a special making video on social media. From the video, it is safe to assume that the superstar is shedding his larger-than-life image after a short gap for the film, which features him in a common man avatar. “The movie I’m working on is with Mohanlal, the actor. I’ve tried to present Lalettan in the way I like him the most,” says director Tharun Moorthy in the video.

Mohanlal's common man avatar in Thudarum

“Mohanlal plays a character you might relate to from your neighborhood. A taxi driver, his family, the people around him, his interesting group of friends, his life – that's how we have treated this film,” explained the National Award-winning filmmaker. Tharun Moorthy, who admitted that there are elements that appeal to younger audiences in the film, further added that those factors, however, are stitched together differently. The director also confirmed that Mohanlal’s much-celebrated chemistry with Shobana is one of the main highlights of the film.

From the Thudarum-making video, it is confirmed that the movie narrates a simple story set in a smalltown, in the backdrop of a middle-class family. Mohanlal and Shobana are expected to play a middle-aged couple in the film. As reported earlier, the veteran actor’s character in the film, Shanmugham, is a taxi driver from a humble background. The makers are expected to drop the long-awaited Thudarum teaser by the end of December 2024.
