When Silambarasan was first announced stepping into the world of Thug Life, which already had stalwarts like Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, and AR Rahman among the other notable names, it was indeed a surprise.

The actor, who comes from a separate fanbase, had managed to capture attention his way through the trailer, which has him play the adopted son of Kamal Haasan’s Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker, a name reminiscent of Nayakan’s protagonist. And just like the 1987 film, Thug Life too is a gangster actioner, which is expected to see the thug of war between Kamal Haasan’s Sakthivel and Silambarasan’s rumoured character name Amaran. But when Kamal Haasan gets questioned who his pair is in the film, given the trailer sparked the conversation with the Gunaa actor sharing intimate screen space with both Trisha and Abhirami, he quickly points out it is Silambarasan as the latter breaks into a laugh.

The Osthe actor, who is working with Kamal Haasan for the first time, is naturally in awe of him, as he talks about his learnings, “There’s a lot to learn and it is uncountable. The most difficult thing is that when we are acting, you keep forgetting you are also in the scene and begin admiring Kamal sir’s performance. You should keep reminding that we are also acting.” Silambarasan further talks about how Kamal Haasan pays attention to detail to every minute aspect on the sets, which goes beyond things that just concern him.

Silambarasan talks about learnings of life

Silambarasan, whose career and personal lives have seen their fair share of ups and downs, and how sometimes he had become the centre of controversies, thanks to his playful personality then, has now become humbler and calmer. “I was just acting my age then, and had I not been like that before, I would have regretted it today. I was naughty and mischievous when I was young, and now I have matured for my age,” he adds.

But when a spiritual person like Silambarasan who goes by prefix Atman, comes together with Kamal Haasan who is staunch atheist, the Vaanam actor says, “There is something in all of us through which we see the world. It can be named anything, either God or an internal force. There is nothing right or wrong, and what we believe is life. That is how I see it.” And rightfully so, he points his answers to God, when the actor is troubled excessively with questions on his marriage.
