After much anticipation and waiting, Tamil film Thug Life has finally hit theatres. Despite the barrage of promotions and expectations on the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, the film has not been received well, with the audience disappointed with the film’s writing. One of the key aspects that fans have been pointing out is Trisha’s character, which was shrouded in mystery before the release. With the film now out, it looks like her role has not been much accepted by the audience, and they instead want another character more screen space. Keep reading to know which character we are talking about.
After 38 long years since the release of Nayakan, two doyens of Tamil cinema - Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam - joined hands for gangster action-drama Thug Life. The film hit theatres on June 5, and following its release, many have been shocked by how the film ended up as a disappointment.
Starring Simbu, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nasser, Abhirami and others, netizens have been particularly disappointed with Trisha’s character. The Kodi actor plays the role of Indrani, who is a mistress of the protagonist Sakthivel, played by Kamal Haasan. While the character made little to no contribution to the film, many pointed out that Aishwarya Lekshmi, who plays a crucial yet small role in the film, should have gotten more screen space. In what would be a spoiler ahead, the Kaanekkaane actor plays the long-lost sister of Simbu’s character, who gets to reunite with her brother only in the climax, leaving little exploration of her characterisation.
The film, which faced a ban in Karnataka, after the Thenali actor failed to apologise for his remarks on Kannada language, collected Rs 17 crore on day one in India. The film hit a new low when it could not surpass Indian 2 and Vikram collections.
