Thug Life Telugu: Kamal Haasan's film needs record numbers to break even, here's what we know

Thug Life is all set to hit the screens on June 5, 2025, and there is massive buzz around the film across the globe. The action drama is also releasing in Telugu on a large scale, and none other than actor Nithiin's father, Sudhakar Reddy, has acquired the Telugu rights and is releasing the film on a grand note.

As he has bagged the rights for a massive price, the breakeven target for the film in the Telugu market is also high. We at OTTplay have learned that Thug Life needs to earn at least ₹21 crore net to be considered safe. This is a huge number and the highest target to date for any non-Telugu film in the Telugu states.

This means Thug Life must open to blockbuster word-of-mouth in Telugu to achieve that kind of revenue. Kamal Haasan, known for his iconic roles in Satyame Sivam and Panchathanthiram, has a solid fan base in the Telugu market, especially after his last film, Vikram, became a massive hit at the box office.

Now that he is teaming up with the Yuva director for the second time after Nayagan, the buzz is even higher. Trisha, who also enjoys a strong following in Telugu, stars in this film and is simultaneously working on Vishwambhara alongside Chiranjeevi.

The film also features Simbu, Ashok Selvan, and Nasser in key roles, with music composed by AR Rahman. The songs have already gained popularity, and bookings will open soon.

Thug Life faces competition from Hari Hara Veera Mallu

However, just a week after Thug Life's release, Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu is set to hit screens on June 12, 2025. This biggie poses a serious challenge, and Thug Life must recover most of its target earnings before Pawan Kalyan’s film releases; otherwise, the ₹21 crore goal may be tough to achieve.
