Dialogues from films making it to political circles is not something new in Tamil Nadu. Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu are no exception to the trend. Soon after the release of the films, yesterday, one dialogue from each film gathered steam in the state political circles. Today, they are also trending on social media.
Take for instance, the scene in Thunivu that involves an officer from the union government's security wing named Ravindhar and Samuthirakani's character Dayalan. In the scene, Samuthirakani asks Ravindhar to not interfere in the state's business. 'Idhu Tamil Nadu, un velaya inga kaatadha' (This is Tamil Nadu, don't try to act smart here). Many have likened it to the recent tussle between the Tamil Nadu government and Governor RN Ravi. The latter had walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly after he omitted certain portions from a prepared speech and soon after that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin made a resolution against the Governor. The dialogue is now being used against the TN Governor asking him to interfere in the state's affairs.
In the meantime, Vijay's Varisu has a scene where Thalapathy delivers a dialogue that goes like this, "Anju nimishathla Aatchiye maarum", which translates to 'In a span of five minutes, even a government can change". Today, supporters of BJP are using the same dialogue on social media handles hitting out at the Tamil Nadu government for taking on the Governor and stating that governments can change in five minutes.
What's interesting is that it was the same party that had taken on Vijay a number of times earlier. When Vijay's Mersal (2017) released, the film had dialogues that were critical of BJP's GST and Digital India campaign. BJP politician H Raja had then stated he would drop a truth bomb and had later 'revealed' that Vijay was a Christian and that his full name was Joseph Vijay. He had also stated that Vijay was anti-Hindu. However, the move completely backfired and fans stated that they already knew about Vijay's full name and that they didn't care which religion he belonged to and that they loved him whatsoever. H Raja became a butt of jokes and soon the hashtag #ILoveJosephVijay began doing the rounds.
In 2020, I-T raids were conducted at Vijay's houses and it was considered as a move by the BJP-led Union Government. But soon after the raids, Vijay fans trended the hashtag #WestandwithVijay.
After the recent hashtag, fans have once again questioned the BJP political circle in Tamil Nadu for using 'Joseph' Vijay's dialogues at their own convenience.
