Ajith's action-packed Thunivu finally hit the screens on January 11 amid much fanfare and the film has got a great opening at the box office. Thunivu raked in more moolah at the box office on day 1 than Vijay's Varisu, a family drama and action entertainer. And after 3 days of release, it still seems to be leading the race. The film has also been collecting more than Ajith's previous release Valimai across the globe. To celebrate the success of the film, Thunivu director H Vinoth has now headed to Sabarimala as a gesture of gratitude. Pictures of the director with the irumudi at Sabarimala are doing the rounds on the internet.

In the meantime, the film continues with the box office rampage across the globe. Thunivu is an action entertainer that revolves around a heist and a mutual funds' fraud. When gangster Radha decides to rob a bank, he realises that another group has already hijacked the bank and the team is led by a mysterious person called Dark Devil. Ajith's presence on screen was much lauded by critics and audience. The film is bankrolled by Boney Kapoor. Interestingly, this marks the third project of Boney Kapoor, H Vinoth and Ajith after Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai.

Thunivu has music by Ghibran, and the songs are huge chartbusters, including Chilla Chilla, Kasethan Kadavulada and Gangsta. Cinematography is by Nirav Shah and editing is by Ghibran. The star cast includes Manju Warrier, marking her maiden collaboration with Ajith, Samuthirakani, Veera, Bhagavathi Peruman, GM Sundar to name a few.

Both Thunivu and Varisu (directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju) released on the same day (January 11) and have been going strong at the box office. With the Pongal holidays beginning, it seems like theatres will cash in on the harvest festival.
