Thuramukham: Nivin Pauly’s period drama directed by Rajeev Ravi to release on THIS date

Nivin Pauly’s Thuramukham is one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies that is gearing up for a release. The makers of the movie have finally confirmed a release date for the period drama. 

The news shared on social media confirms that the movie will hit theatres on January 20, 2022. The news shared by Pauly on his Instagram comes with a short clip from the movie that features the actor in his character from Thuramukham. 

“People’s voice cannot be silenced! The rebellion is set to begin. Thuramukham, releasing on January 20, 2022 in theatres near you”, wrote the actor in his post. 

Pauly also shared a post today about the release date along with a new poster for the movie. “The uprising is set to begin!”, wrote the actor, in the caption.

The movie is directed by Rajeev Ravi, who is also the cinematographer. Apart from Pauly, the movie also features Nimisha Sajayan, Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Poornima Indrajith, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari and Darshana Rajendran among others in important roles. 

The movie that premiered at the 2021 International Film Festival Rotterdam, is written by Gopan Chidambaran and is based on the stage play of the same name, which was written by his father K. M. Chidambaran. 

The story of Thuramukham revolves around the protests against the ‘Chaappa’ system and other illegitimate labour systems which were prevalent during the period of 1940s in the areas of Cochin Mattancherry harbour. 

Nivin Pauly was last seen in the satirical comedy Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar. The actor will also be seen in Mahaveeryar, Padavettu and Thaaram.
