Looks like all is not well for Bollywood celebrities nowadays! A day after popular actor Ranbir Kapoor was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for his alleged involvement in an online betting scam, fresh reports suggest that the probe agency is likely to get in touch with a dozen other leading celebrities to gather more information.
What’s the exact news?
Sources close to the development told news portal ETimes today, “Actor Tiger Shroff, actress Sunny Leone, singer Neha Kakkar, comedians Bharti Singh and Krushna Abhishek and many other celebrities including singers Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan may be summoned by the ED in the coming days.”
Names of famous Indian singer Vishal Dadlani and actress Bhagyashree are also on the list.
It is believed that Mahadev group promoters – who indulged in online betting practices, had hired several celebrities and social-media influencers to promote their gaming-betting apps after paying them. Most of the payments were made in cash. Saurabh Chandrakar and his friend Ravi Uppal are the two primary promoters of the group.
The report further claimed, “Notably, these celebs attended and performed at the wedding and success party of the gaming app promoter Sourabh Chandrakar in UAE, in February this year. Sourabh has spent Rs 200 crore on his own wedding, for which he flew celebrities in private jets and used hawala channels to pay them in cash.”
What happened yesterday?
According to information from reliable sources, the news agency ANI reported yesterday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to Ranbir Kapoor. The summons is in connection to a money laundering case related to the Mahadev Online Book gaming-betting app. It is alleged that Kapoor had been involved in promoting one of the gaming-betting apps affiliated with the Mahadev group.
Reportedly, the ED has requested Ranbir Kapoor to make an appearance at the agency's office in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on October 6 (tomorrow).
Contrary to the news, some reports suggest that Ranbir’s name is not mentioned in the list. Only time will tell where the future of these celebrities lies.
