Typically, guests at a wedding exchange gifts cheerfully before moving on. What if, however, the wedding is postponed following the gift exchange, and the recipient stubbornly refuses to let go of their present? That's the origin of the insanity in the forthcoming entertainer Toaster on Netflix. This dark comedy, which premieres on April 15, 2026, centres on a commonplace item that becomes the focus of a series of increasingly absurd events. A scenario considerably larger than anybody anticipated emerges from what begins as a little obsession.
| Film Title | Toaster |
| OTT Release Date | April 15, 2026 |
| Streaming Platform | Netflix |
| Director | Vivek Das Chaudhary |
| Lead Cast | Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa |
The protagonist of Toaster is the "miserly" guy, Ramakant, played by Rajkummar Rao, whose demeanour is more than simply a character quirk; it's an inherent force in his life. After attending a nuptial, Ramakant's insane obsession with the ₹5,000 toaster he and Sanya Malhotra gave to the newlyweds takes over.
A series of startling murder twists, secrets, and accidents are set in motion as Ramakant's pursuit for his appliance intensifies. An innocent attempt at property reclamation escalates into a hilarious drama, demonstrating that in the realm of high-stakes trivia, nobody is immune.
In the film's official trailer, Rao gives a delightfully ironic performance. The video features the actor responding to a script for another announcement, which begins with a monologue. He jokes, "I'm tired of doing monologues," alluding to his reputation as an actor known for intense, episodic roles.
Ironically, he breaks the fourth wall by telling the audience the title, cast, and Netflix premiere date of the film—April 15—while insisting he won't conduct a monologue. He goes so far as to call his character "RK... no, not Rajkummar, but Ramakant", establishing the tone for the film's self-aware comedy.
Toaster is more than simply a new release; it's also Patralekhaa's first foray into producing under the Kampa Film label. The actor has decided to remain in the director's chair for this project and is concentrating on assembling a stellar cast to bring this uncommon story to life.
Patralekhaa said that Toaster was the first to catch her eye because of the surprising humour it contained. She added, "Stepping into production with Kampa Film has been an incredibly meaningful milestone... we knew it was a story we wanted to bring to life."
A group of veteran actors renowned for their comic timing surround Rao and Malhotra, who have worked together before in Ludo and HIT: The First Case, respectively. The film's oddball characters are the lifeblood of director Vivek Das Chaudhary's unusual, multi-layered story. Abhishek Banerjee, whose creative collaboration with Rao began with the Stree franchise, makes a cameo in the production.
The film's transfer to Netflix reflects the increasing popularity of "high-concept" comedies on OTT. Featuring elements of both murder mysteries and "kanjoos" humour, Toaster promises to be an amusing and incisive look at human stupidity and the mayhem that ensues when seemingly little things are taken to extremes.
On April 15, 2026, Toaster will make its Netflix debut.
