Tollywood actress alleged sexual misconduct against director

Tollywood director Bappa, who has been making a film on the life of the footballer Mehtab Hossain, faced an allegation of sexual harassment. Actress Sukanya Dutta took to social media and shared some screenshots of messages with the director and alleged him of sending unwarranted suggestions. 

Sukanya, who has worked in serials like Bijayini and Deep Jwele Jai, said that she was approached by Bappa before Durga Puja about working in this film. She claimed that Bappa asked her to meet outside several times on the pretext of different excuses. The alleged incident took place one week ago. In an interview with Anandabazar Online, the actress said, “He asked me to meet outside a number of times. I was also interested in working. I met him outside the studio and we discussed working on a short film. Then he gave me a lift in his scooter. He told me to join a workshop on acting in intimate scenes. Perhaps he discussed this with others. From Thursday many people alluded to this incident and made uncomfortable jokes. Then I thought I should let others know what happened to me.”

On the other hand, Bappa dismissed the allegation. He said, “I don't know Sukanya personally. She is not even my Facebook friend. I don’t know why I am targeted. I just started working in this industry. I have to seek legal measures. I will go to the police station.” 

Sukanya’s husband is involved in the Bollywood music industry. They own a restaurant in Barrackpore. Along with supervising the restaurant, Sukanya acts out of passion. She just finished a music video with actor Anubhab Kanjilal. Sukanya said that she will also take legal action if Bappa does so.
