Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has come under fire after tweeting about a film festival, at a time when Chennai was reeling under the destructions caused by Cyclone Michaung.
The torrential rains from the cyclone caused widespread flooding in Chennai and surrounding areas, disrupting lives and leaving many without access to basic necessities. Rahman's tweet, seemingly oblivious to the local crisis, triggered a wave of criticism on social media, with users sharing memes and expressing disappointment in the timing of his post.
The controversial tweet mentioned The Red Sea Film Festival, which is currently happening in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Rahman is the guest of honour at the screening of 'Three', which is helmed by Nayla Al Khaja, UAE's first female director.
"Chennai and Isaipuyal...," responded an X user, along with a collage of a scene from Titanic, where a music band continues to play their instruments on a sinking ship.

Some users pointed out the absence of any mention of the ongoing crisis in Chennai on Rahman's social media accounts.
"Not a single tweet about on going crisis in his home town," slammed another.
Amid growing criticism, Rahman posted a tweet expressing his concern about the flood situation in Chennai. "Our hearts go out to those affected. Let's stand together in support, spreading awareness, and contributing to relief efforts. Every gesture counts," he said.
