The official trailer of Toolsidas Junior, a sports drama set in the world of snooker, was released today.
The late Rajiv Kapoor plays Toolsidas, a snooker player who in spite of his brilliance fails to win against his contender Jimmy Tandon (Dilip Tahhil). His son, Toolsidas Jr (Varun Buddhadev) decides to take it into his own hands to ensure that his father's name makes it to the winner's list.
In the trailer, he's told that no one under 16 years of age is allowed to compete in these contests, yet he doesn't give up. However, with the help of Mohammed Salam (Sanjay Dutt), he's able to learn the game.
The clip ends on a comical note when, Toolsidas asks his coach, "Iss game ko snooker kyu bulate hain? Why is this game called snooker?" The response he gets is a deadpan, "Pataa nahi (I don't know)," which elicits laughter from the men hanging out with them.
Toolsidas Junior, said to be based on real events, is written and directed by Mridul. He has previously written and directed a film Missed Call in 2005. The screenplay is co-written by him and Ashutosh Gowariker, who is also the producer.
The sports drama would have marked Kapoor's return to films after 30 years, with his last appearance being Zimmedaaar in 1990.
Toolsidas Junior will release in cinemas on March 4 after which it will be made available on Sony Max and Netflix.
