Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a 64-episode Japanese anime series which released in 2009. The show is adapted from the original Fullmetal Alchemist manga series and narrates the story of two brothers who attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy after she dies of an incurable illness. In their failed attempt, they physically disable themselves. Thus, to regain their bodies, they set out in search of Philosopher’s Stone.

Death Note

Death Note is a 2006 manga series based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s book of the same name. The story follows protagonist Light Yagami, a genius high school student who finds a magical notebook that lets the user kill anyone by writing their names in it. Blinded by the power of the book, he starts killing Japanese criminals and targets international ones. The show contains several twists to keep audiences hooked to their seats.

Steins; Gate

Steins; Gate is a 2011 anime series based on time travel and the outcome of its misuse. The plot depicts an avowed ‘mad scientist Hououin Kyouma who discovers a time machine that can send messages to the past. Kyouma finds himself in trouble when a search organization named SERN tracks him and his colleagues down.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a 1995 Japanese mecha series set in a futuristic city named Tokyo-3. During a worldwide crisis, the protagonist, Shinji Ikari’s father recruits him to a shady organization called Nerv to pilot a giant bio-machine Evangelion, in order to combat alien beings named Angels. The series narrates the experiences of Evangelion pilots as they fight Angels, planning to destroy their city.

Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop is a sci-fi neo-noir anime inspired by western films. Set in a futuristic society in 2070, the show follows a group of bounty hunters as they embark on adventures aboard their spaceship called Bebop. The narrative tackles themes like existentialism and isolation. A live-action adaptation of the series will release on Netflix on November 19, 2021.

Arcane

Arcane, released earlier this month, has received glowing reviews from fans and critics alike. The Netflix Original anime series is based on the hit online multiplayer video game League of Legends. Its unique animation and compelling story make it one of the best-animated shows of this year.
