Aviation has always captured the imagination of the masses irrespective of their demographic. An exciting storyline about flying machines is a popular concept among filmmakers, be it epic war dramas or action thrillers about hijacking, packed with nail-biting scenes mid-air using high-end visual effects. There are a few praiseworthy aviation-based movies that have some great stories to tell, today’s list is all about such movies.   

Air Force One

The film is a 1997 American political action-thriller starring Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Glenn Close, Wendy Crewson in the lead. It is about a group of terrorists who hijack US President James Marshall’s official Air Force One. The President must race against time to rescue his family and his team on board. The movie is a must-watch, especially for its spectacular climax

Con Air

An American action thriller film released in 1997 stars Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and John Malkovich in the lead roles. This great entertainer has a plot depicting a wrongly convicted former US Ranger Cameron Poe who gets paroled to return home to his pregnant wife and must fly home in a prison transport plane with criminals on board. He is forced to secretly work with a US Marshall in order to prevent the criminals from plotting to hijack the flight mid-air as part of an elaborate prison break.

Sully

Sully is a 2016 American biographical drama movie starring Tom Hanks as Sullenberger (Sully). Directed by Clint Eastwood, based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley Sullenberger, the film depicts Sully’s miraculous emergency landing of US Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River, saving the lives of everyone on board. Though he is lauded as a hero in the eyes of the media and public, he faces a tough investigation that could hamper his career.

A 2014 American action thriller film starring William John Neeson and Julianne Moore in the lead is about a terror plot onboard a flight. The story is all about the US Air Marshal Bill Marks, who gets threatening messages from an unknown flyer ordering the airline to transfer a huge sum of money to an offshore account, failing to do so will result in a passenger being killed every 20 minutes.

This 2005 release is an American Psychological thriller film that stars Jodie Foster as Kylie Pratt. The story follows Kylie, a recently widowed American aircraft engineer who flies back to the US with her six-year-old daughter and her husband’s body in a coffin. Panic strikes when Kylie doesn’t find her daughter next to her and nobody on board admits to seeing her. Keeping her sanity in mind she searches for her missing daughter on the double-decker flight.

Snakes on a Plane

If you are a movie buff who enjoys frightful slithery action-packed movies then this one is a must-watch for you. A 2006 American action thriller film starring Samuel L. Jackson, the story follows an FBI agent who boards a plane, escorting a witness to testify against a mob boss. Unfortunately, the plane is infested with highly aggressive venomous serpents drugged to attack anyone, in what turned out to be an elaborate scheme by the mobster to kill the witness by bringing the whole plane down.
