Top Gun: Maverick had a successful Saturday, grossing approximately Rs 4.25 crore. The film's box office numbers are still low, but it saw a 70 percent increase on Saturday, which is arguably the highest for a major movie since the pandemic if we exclude The Kashmir Files.
Despite its Thursday release, the jump has occurred, and thanks to this Saturday's result, it may be able to cling on until Monday, or it may simply be an urban weekend film that does better on weekends. The Sunday surge, which is the standard for Hollywood in India, is unlikely to happen.
The following are the Top Gun: Maverick collections in India to date.
Wednesday: Rs 25 lakhs
Thursday: Rs 2 crore
Friday: Rs 2.50 crore
Saturday: Rs 4.25 crore
TOTAL: Rs 9 crore
Top Gun: Maverick, like Anek, has struggled to create an impact in India, with collections falling short in the first two days. However, it should fare better than Anek. The film is doing exceptionally well in North America, and it is expected to gross close to $150 million during the four-day holiday weekend.
According to Deadline, Paramount is now projecting Top Gun: Maverick to gross $150 million in four days, which would be Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski's highest opening ever in the United States.
The authorities on the box office, Comscore, have addressed a statistical conundrum that has been plaguing the industry all night: they've confirmed that Top Gun 2 will have a record four-day Memorial Day weekend opening in the United States. It outperforms 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($139.8M) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($126.9M) four-day holiday starts.
From a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, Top Gun: Maverick is an action drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie. It's a follow-up to Top Gun (1986). Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer star alongside Tom Cruise as test pilot Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
It chronicles Maverick's return to the US Navy's Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, commonly known as "Top Gun", where he must confront his past while training a group of younger fighter pilots, one of whom is the son of Maverick's murdered closest buddy, Goose.
