Tovino Thomas and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer Malayalam film Godha gets a Hindi remake. The original movie which was released in 2017 is directed by Basil Joseph and is a sports drama that became a hit at the box office. Now, Wamiqa is set to reprise her role as the female lead in the Bollywood remake. Meanwhile, she was last seen in Disney+ Hotstar original series Grahan.
Talking about Godha remake, a source said that it's tentatively in talks. The source further said, "If everything works out, Wamiqa would be starring in the film. Godha was a very successful film and it was Wamiqa who really drove the film forward. If the film gets remade in Hindi, the audience would definitely find it to be a great watch."
The film, Godha is about Captain (Renji Panicker), a former wrestler, who sends his son Aanjaneya Das (Tovino) to Punjab for higher studies. Soon after reaching Punjab, Das falls in love with Aditi (Wamiqa), a champion wrestler, who inspires him to pursue the sport.
Earlier during an interaction with The Times of India, Wamiqa described her character in Godha as "She's a tomboy, who is bold and doesn't need a boy to protect her and be what she is."
Meanwhile, Gabbi started her career in brief roles by starring in Imtiaz Ali films namely Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal. She also starred in other Bollywood films such as Mausam, Bittoo Boss and Sixteen.
Wamiqa also starred in a few other South films like Bhale Manchi Roju in Telugu, Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam in Tamil and Nine in Malayalam.
It is being reported that she will be playing the role of Sivagami in the Netflix original series Baahubali: Before the Beginning replacing Mrunal Thakur.
The official announcement for Godha's Hindi remake is yet to be made.
