Tovino Thomas’ gritty thriller Kala to release on OTT soon

The much-acclaimed Malayalam action-thriller Kala, which is directed by Rohith VS and has Tovino Thomas in the lead, is now gearing up for its digital release. The movie completed a month in theatres on April 16 and the makers shared a poster online, announcing that the film is ready to hit an OTT platform soon. 

Kala, which also has Lal, Moor and Divya Pillai as part of the cast, was lauded for its raw action scenes and brilliant performances by Moor and Tovino. Earlier, Tovino had posted on his social media page, “Kala was hard. Real hard. But the mutual love (all of us) had for cinema made it all possible.” 

On the movie, the actor in an interview said, “It’s got a simple story but has a lot of layers. It’s how people behave with others. For instance, how you react with your parents wouldn’t be how you are with your children, friends, workers or a dog.” Through its narrative, the film also sheds light to how those in different rungs of the society are perceived. 

While the movie hit theatres in March, the OTT release date is yet to be confirmed. However, we hear that the makers are looking at a digital release date at the end of April or the first week of May. 

In April alone, five Malayalam movies including Irul, The Priest and Vellam were released on OTTs and with the second wave of COVID-19 prompting authorities to tighten restrictions, more movies are expected to follow suit.
