Tovino Thomas starrer Minnal Murali 2 soon: Producer drops a major update

Producer Sophia Paul dropped a major hint about the sequel to the blockbuster superhero movie Minnal Murali 2. On her Instagram story, she shared the insignia of Minnal Murali and captioned "Minnal" followed by two lightning blots suggesting that the much-awaited sequel featuring Tovino Thomas was in the work. 

Minnal Murali was a direct Netflix release in 2021. Even though the movie was designed for a big screen experience by director Basil Joseph, the movie had to opt for the OTT release owing to the grim pandemic situation in the country at the time. The movie premiered on Netflix to rave reviews and soon captured the attention of the audience across the country. 

Many could not believe what the cast and crew had managed to achieve in the superhero genre with a modest Rs 20 crore. Basil's gripping screenplay and his grasp over the superhero genre, made up for the lack of a big budget. Minnal Murali was celebrated as a triumph of the craft of storytelling.

The movie was especially celebrated for the way it presented its villain. Unlike other movies, Minnal Murali treated the villain with great kindness and made the audience empathise with the character. The character Shibu was so well written that Tovino expressed his interest to play it. However, on Basil's insistence, Tovino decided to stick to playing the good guy. 

Even though a follow-up movie to Minnal Murali was always in the pipeline Basil was sure not to make a movie just to cash in on the movie's popularity. He said if he finds a good story he will make the sequel. It seems the inspiration for Minnal Murali has finally struck Basil.
