Can Rocking Star Yash get past his own personal best that was set in 2022 with KGF: Chapter 2 in Karnataka? Toxic is all set to release on March 19, 2026

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups comes with great expectations. It is Rocking Star Yash’s first release since the monster hit KGF: Chapter 2, which continues to be the highest grossing film from Kannada and has been rumoured to have been made keeping an international audience in mind. The film is s-speculated to have been made at a massive Rs 600 cr budget, meaning that it will have to outdo KGF: Chapter 2’s final worldwide figures to break even.
This would not have been a big deal had the film got the solo release it was aiming for, especially since Yash has a massive following in the Hindi belt. But then it is clashing with Dhurandhar 2, the original of which currently holds the distinction of being the highest grossing Indian film of 2025, with a Hindi version only.

Toxic is expected to have the upper hand in the south, but if one were to look at the numbers that KGF-2 made in these markets, even replicating that is not going to be enough. There’s also the question of whether the Geetu Mohandas film will become the highest grossing Kannada film ever, a feat that Rishab Shetty achieved with Kantara Chapter 1 less than a year ago. The Kantara prequel failed to break into the Rs 1,000 cr club and beat KGF-2’s worldwide gross, but it did better the latter’s Karnataka figures.
According to box office trackers, KGF-2’s Kannada version brought in only Rs 154.69 cr, whereas Kantara Chapter 1 managed to up that to Rs 200.02 cr. In fact, even the 2022 Kantara fared better than KGF-2 in the state, coming in at Rs 162 cr. While Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge releasing with a Kannada dubbed version is unlikely to impact the performance of Toxic in its original version, what will is that the film is going to be A-rated, ruling out family audiences. That Dhurandhar did a worldwide gross of Rs 1350 cr with an A-rating should give Toxic hope.

No doubt, Toxic will have hiked ticket rates right through its first weekend, given that it is releasing on a Thursday, with peak rates expected on Day 1. KGF-2, for instance, had ticket rates as high as Rs 5,000 on Day 1. With the government cap on ticket rates remaining stayed, no doubt, Toxic will make a killing in the first weekend.
