The recent glimpses of the upcoming remake of Toxic Avenger have gained attention, mainly due to the transformation of Elijah Wood and Peter Dinklage. Entertainment Weekly has revealed new images of the film, showcasing Peter as the Janitor who gains superpowers following a chemical accident. In the glimpse, Peter can be seen wearing a domino mask and tutu, inspired by the appearance of the titular character in the original version and its animated spin-off.
Fans were also excited by Elijah Wood's look of the villain Fritz Harbinger, whose appearance gave them chills. The Lord of the Rings star looked almost unrecognizable, with a bald head, stringy hair, blackened teeth, and sunken eyes. The character's exaggerated appearance draws inspiration from Danny DeVito's Penguin in Batman Returns.
Macon Blair helms the reboot of Toxic Avenger and stars Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige. The film is produced by Legendary Entertainment, known for movies like Dune.
Who is Toxic Avenger
The story of Toxic Avenger revolves around a janitor named Melvin Junko, who gains superhuman abilities after falling into a pool of toxic waste. He subsequently uses his newfound powers to fight crime in the city. The success of the film released in 1984 led to three sequels and a spin-off cartoon series named Toxic Crusaders.
