Toxic: Did Tovino Thomas just confirm what’s been speculated all along?

Sometime in August this year, social media was abuzz with a new speculation about #Yash19, which, as we now know is called Toxic and has Geetu Mohandas in the director’s chair. The rumour was that Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas would be onboard the project, after Geetu began following him on Instagram. Geetu, as it turns out, follows only a couple of hundred of people on social media, so every new connection she has made since the rumour of her collaboration with Yash came up has raised eyebrows. Earlier today, after the much-awaited title reveal of the film, Tovino shared the same on his Instagram story, writing “Wow” and tagging Yash, Geetu and KVN Productions.

Comments on social media ranged from “Tovino has posted #Toxic title teaser in his insta account!!”, to “Tovino is the villain, pakka”, among others. To questions on who could be the ideal antagonist for Yash in Toxic, several netizens named Tovino. Some netizens were of the opinion that a new face would also be ideal as the antagonist.

Toxic is rumoured to be a gangster film revolving around the drug mafia in Goa in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The title reveal today, also confirmed the film’s 2025 Vishu release status, hitting theatres on April 10, 2025, three years after KGF: Chapter 2 came out. It is currently being rumoured that the film will have three leading ladies in prominent roles, which is being interpreted as Yash having multiple shades in the film and each actress to be seen with him at specific time period. There was a buzz that Charan Raj has been roped in as the music composer and the BGM of the title announcement had netizens convinced that it was his handiwork. But the team has not confirmed this, so it remains unknown at the moment who is onboard as composer.
