It’s been rumoured that Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic, would still be a 2025 fim, even though it won’t meet its April 10 deadline, but a leading distributor has now confirmed this.

The lull that the Kannada film industry is experiencing currently will change by April/May, reckons Karthik Gowda of KRG Cinemas, a production and distribution firm in Karnataka. While KRG’s next, Ekka, featuring Yuva Rajkumar is set for release on June 6, Karthik says that a slew of good films, including the likes of Vidyapati, Agnyathavasi, Firefly, Ekka, 45, Kantara Chapter 1, KD-The Devil and Toxic set to release in the course of the year. While 45 has been announced as an August 15 release and Kantara Chapter 1 on October 2, KD and Toxic do not have official dates yet.
For a while, it has been rumoured that Toxic, which had initially been announced as an April 10, 2025 release, would still be in theatres this year, with December the likely window. This is something that Karthik also confirms, although he does not offer a date. As of now, December does not have major Indian films listed for release, but that could change in the days to come.
In Kannada, Dhruva Sarja’s KD and Darshan Thoogudeepa’s Devil are likely contenders. While KD is in post-production, Darshan has just resumed shooting for Devil, after his arrest in the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case. The only ‘big’ film that’s been confirmed is James Cameron’s Avatar 3: Fire and Ash, which will release on December 19. As big a release that Avatar 3 will be in India, it will not be much of an issue for the Yash starrer.
Where it will be is in the global market, given that Toxic is, reportedly, being shot in Kannada and English simultaneously, to give it an international release as well. While the April 10 release would have given Toxic an Easter and Vishu holiday advantage, the only long-weekend in December is the Christmas weekend, followed by New Year’s then. Last year, Kiccha Sudeep’s Max released for Christmas, despite competition from other language films, and became the highest grossing Kannada film of 2024.

It is being said that the makers of Toxic, who’ve not made any official announcement barring the title and initial release date, will tell fans when to expect the film on April 10. Yet again, this has not been confirmed by the team, but given that Hollywood stunt co-ordinator JJ Perry has wound up his work on the film, it would be safe to assume that Toxic is not far from its date with audiences.
