In the time since the teaser of social media has been abuzz with all things Toxic. Fans, neutral audiences and even naysayers have all been pouring over every frame of the teaser to spot any surprise and form theories about what the film could entail based on these visuals. Rocking Star Yash fans, of course, are over the moon, the actor is either in a dual shade across timelines or playing father and son. Either which way, the de-aged version of Yash, sans his ‘trademark’ beard, is especially exciting for them; a reminder of ‘vintage’ Yash before KGF.
But what netizens are also discussing is that despite having 5 supposedly strong female characters in the film, not one managed to make it to the teaser. This teaser was a one-man show, all about Raya and whoever the younger version is – is it Raya’s son, who returns to avenge his father or join his fight as the opposition gets stronger? The only casting speculation that emerged from the teaser is that of Tovino Thomas, who, for a long time has been rumoured to be the villain in the tale. A very brief shot of an actor with a full face of joker makeup has prompted speculation that it is the Minnal Murali actor.
Comments ranged from, “Crazy teaser, but they should've explored a bit of female characters as well” to “Can see Geethu's vision and intention gone liquidated”, ”Geethu talked about this as ‘a gangster film with a female gaze’. None of the content released so far points towards that”, “The dialogues feel like lazy-writing and it feels like another style over substance high-octane thriller”, “Last 15 seconds was absolute banger, but please make the screens brighter stop this color grading”, among others.
Several netizens pointed out that the teaser gives the exact same vibes as films like KGF, Salaar, Pushpa, etc., in which there’s mindless violence and everything’s aimed at creating shock value. Ravi Basrur’s BGM also left them unimpressed and worried about the final output. According to social media buzz, a song will soon be released, followed by the trailer in early March, which should shed more light on what to expect. Toxic releases in theatres on March 19 in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and English.
