Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh film in the franchise in chronological order. But it is also only the second since the reboot that started with the Bumblebee movie. It is set in 1994, way before the events of the Michael Bay movies, allowing the studio to chart a different path for the machines stranded on earth.

The film, which opened in theatres on June 8, follows the familiar template of Autobots and humans joining forces to defeat a dark power that threatens the existence of all life on Earth. While they are able to keep the villain, Unicron, at bay, his threat still looms large and will supposedly remain the chief antagonist of a proposed trilogy in this timeline.

Spoiler alert:

After years of Autobots vs Decepticons battles, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, takes a step forward and expands the universe with other Cybertronian lifeforms, like, the Maximals and Terrorcons at play. The film ended with former army man Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos), attending yet another job interview, but the company, as it turns out, is a cover for a secret government organization that has been keeping track off his world-saving escapades with the Autobots. If you are thinking that this has got to be Sector 7, well, hold your horses; it’s not that.

Michael Kelly’s Agent Burke works for GI Joe and wants Noah to join in. Hardcore fans of the GI Joe franchise would perhaps have guessed it, considering that the codename Noah’s brother has for him is Sonic, which, in the GI Joe world is a set of specially trained front-line fighters equipped with a devastating arsenal of battle-ready weapons. While Noah’s character is not shown accepting the offer, he definitely seems intrigued when he gets a glimpse of the kind of artillery the division deals with.

The ending, therefore, sets up a crossover between two major Hasbro toy-lines – Transformers and GI Joe – with Noah the link to the Autobots. This would mean that GI Joe would be in Transformers 8 and 9.
