The Indian film industry, mainly Bollywood, has embraced the trend of re-releases, offering audiences a chance to revisit beloved films on the big screen. While Sanam Teri Kasam has surpassed all re-releases in popularity, another film that made a significant impact was Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve. Drawing inspiration from folklore, this Indian period drama has found a new audience with its re-release. But what about its availability on streaming platforms? We’ve got you covered.

For a long time, the film was available on both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. However, around the time of its re-release last year, it was removed from streaming platforms as a strategic move to boost theatrical footfall. The plan worked, as Tumbbad earned over ₹31 crore from its re-release, making it the highest-grossing re-release until Sanam Teri Kasam surpassed it.

But what about its return to streaming? The good news is that Tumbbad is now back on Amazon Prime Video, though it has not yet returned to Netflix. It remains to be seen if Netflix will regain streaming rights. For now, viewers can watch the film with a standard Amazon Prime subscription.

Meanwhile, Tumbbad initially struggled to find an audience upon its original release. However, its re-release received immense love from viewers. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sohum Shah commented, "Yeh film aisi hai jise log theatres mein hi experience karna chaahte hain. This is not an OTT-type film, especially given its sound and VFX. It is larger than life."

Discussing the evolving horror genre, he added, "The aspirational value of romantic films has diminished. Now, horror has carved out its own space because people have grown tired of repetitive romantic films. The horror genre offers an element of surprise that keeps audiences engaged, and its fan base is becoming increasingly loyal."
