Author Twinkle Khanna has addressed social media chatter that claimed her husband, actor Akshay Kumar, was in conflict with actor Vicky Kaushal over making a film about the recent military offensive dubbed “Operation Sindoor”.

Social media hints at rivalry over 'Operation Sindoor'

Several tweets that Khanna found in her most recent editorial for The Times of India implied a rivalry between the two stars. Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films and The Content Engineer had previously announced the film in question, but it gained notice and criticism due to a controversial poster and topic.

Khanna revealed that upon viewing the social media posts, she promptly questioned Akshay. She wrote, "I come across a flurry of tweets and I call the man of the house and start arguing. ‘I just read that you are fighting with Vicky Kaushal over who gets to make a movie on Operation Sindoor.’ He sighs and says, ‘It’s fake news and my leg is on fire, so I will call you later.’ He really should devise better excuses if he just wants to hang up."

Akshay Kumar proves his honesty

Akshay demonstrated his honesty by arriving home later, evidently in pain. According to Khanna, "Nowadays, it is so difficult to figure out what is true that I look at every piece of information suspiciously." She continued, "Apparently, his leg was truly on fire for a scene."

It all started when filmmaker Uttam Maheshwari announced Operation Sindoor with a poster showing a female soldier with a gun and sindoor (vermilion) applied. This announcement caused significant confusion among the audience. Fighter planes, explosions, and fire tanks formed the background.

Director issues public apology amid backlash

As a response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, the film is said to be based on India's cross-border operation that took place on May 6 and 7 and targeted Pakistani militant bases.

Maheshwari took to Instagram to apologise after receiving backlash. He stressed that his goal was not to cause trouble or offend anyone. What he meant was that he did not want to offend or upset anyone. The bravery, selflessness, and resilience of our troops and commanders have profoundly affected him, and he wants to direct this film not for the glory or the money.

The film's timeliness and the sensitivities it touches upon in the midst of ongoing regional tensions have kept it a matter of controversy, even after the apology.
