If you are someone who is active on Twitter, you would have noticed many negative hashtags about Thalapathy Vijay and Tollywood Superstar. Fans of both the actors have been mercilessly trolling the other matinee idol on their social media pages. It is said that it all started when the popular number from Vijay's Beast Arabic Kutju was played during the break between the India vs Pakistan cricket match held on September 4. India lost the match. In the meantime, some fans have stated that the reason India lost the match on that day was because of the song. Soon Vijay fans are said to have hit back at Mahesh Babu fans and vice versa. However, there is no confirmation on this as the reason for the Twitter spat between fans.
Interestingly, Vijay's hit films Ghilli and Pokkiri were remakes of Mahesh Babu's Okkadu and Pokiri. Vijay fans soon stated that the remakes were better than the originals which irked Mahesh Babu fans. Soon, a war of sorts erupted on social media and both sides started brutally trolling the other. Many disparaging hashtags started trending which included #BoycottGayMahesh, #BoycottLesbianVijay and #NationalTrollMaterialVijay, #VijayBotsUnderMBfansFoot and #MBfansUnderVIJAYfansFoot. Some of the tweets even got into an abusive mode as both parties hurled abuses at each other.
Interestingly, both Vijay and Mahesh Babu share a warm relationship and have their own fanbase who would do anything for them. Both the stars have not yet spoken up against the negative hashtags. In the meantime, the war which had reached a feverish peak yesterday seems to be slowly dying down. Fans worshipping their matinee idols as demi-gods is one thing, but netizens are upset that the fandom is being used in such a negative manner. In the meantime, both Vijay and Mahesh Babu are busy on the work front. While Vijay is working on Vamshi Paidipally's Varisu, Mahesh Babu is all set for SSMB28.
