Chunky Panday recalls childhood memories with Twinkle
Both Govinda and Chuny Panday discussed their family background and shared how they came from down-to-earth families. While discussing this, Twinkle said Chunky was a Bandra boy and recalled his mother was a doctor to all the actors back in those days, and her grandmother knew Chunky. Chunky used to come to her house in childhood as her grandmother always used to call him 'Junky Panday.' Recalling those childhood memories, Chunky said, "I have seen Twinkle in pampers" and everyone laughed. "She used to run around and we would visit Rajesh Khanna's (Twinkle's father) to watch video films and she was just two years old."
Govinda calls himself a big fan of Rajesh Khanna
During the same conversation, Govinda said, "I am a die-hard fan of your father (Rajesh Khanna). An ardent follower. What a personality. He was ahead of his time. There was no hero like him, and there will never be another as beautiful as him."
Chunky Panday on how he came into movies
Chunky also shared how he came into movies. When Twinkle asked the question and said whether he came into movies because his mother knew every actor. To this, Chunky quipped, "Yes, I am the epitome of nepotism."
He added, "I am the son of two doctors. My mother knew everyone in the industry. I tried my best to become a doctor. But I got a degree, MBBF (Matric Mein Baar Baar Fail), and I got a PhD (Passed High School With Difficulty). So it was clear that I couldn't have become a doctor, so I said I wanted to be an actor. My maternal uncle was into character roles. His name was Col. Raj Kapoor, and he had produced the serial Fauji starring Shah Rukh Khan so there was film-blood in the family."
He continued that he struggled for four to five years and got a break, and for that, he credited Govinda. When Kajol and Twinkle asked how, Chunky said, "I could not bag any roles in video films or TV serials. Then I happened to bump into Mr Pahlaj Nihalani in a bathroom. So Mr Pahlaj launched Govinda, I mean, he did his second movie with him, and that was Ilzaam, which was a super-hit. I met Mr Pahlaj in the bathroom, and I didn't know because there was no social media back in the day, and people did not know who looked like what. We were both in the bathroom, and my drawstring was in a knot, and I wanted help. So Pahlaj helped me, so I asked him what he was into, and he said, 'I am a producer, Pahlaj Nihalani.' I was taken aback. So I introduced myself, and he said it was a strange name, and I said I wanted to do movies. He asked me to come to his house the next day and meet him and bagged the role next day."
Govinda on Michael Jackson moves
Govinda is known for his popular dance moves. When Kajol said Govinda started his career imitating Michael Jackson's break dance steps, he said, "The fact of the matter is just the opposite. I was not a dancer at all. I was being threatened. The movie shooting was on and they showed me Jaaved Jaaferi's moves. I was awestruck and his moves looked like Michael Jackson's. Then Mr Pahlaj said, 'Do you see his moves? If you can't beat this, your career will end before it begins.' So I said that I will definitely try my best, and Ms Saroj guided me. Then Kamal master showed me how to communicate through my moves."
Govinda also shared his and Samantha Fox's collaboration on the 1995 film Rock Dancer, where they appeared together in the popular song Traffic Jam.
Chunky Panday on 'Saiyaara Panday'
While discussing their old days, the topic of Saiyaara came up. The male lead, Ahaan Panday, is the nephew of Chunky. When Govinda and the hosts congratulated him for his nephew's debut movie success, he said, "I have named myself Chunky Saiyaara Panday. I have no choice. I was Dr Panday's son to start with. Then I was Chunky Panday for a short span, after which I was addressed as Ananya Panday's father. Later, I became Bhavana Panday's husband, and now I am Ahaan Panday's uncle. That's all about my identity." He said that it is a great compliment to be addressed like this.
Govinda on what's next for him
When Kajol asked what's next for Govinda because he has been away from the screen for so long, the Hero No. 1 actor said, "At times, life comes to a standstill, no matter how promising the script or the lyrics are. But they would bring you glory only when you are destined for it. I believe we artists always live in a womb. We feel we are already born, but we are very fortunate ,to have the opportunity to be born again. Some articles were doing the rounds saying my time was up, so I decided to produce movies and started working on Aa Gaya Hero. Before that, I met David Dhawan, and he suggested we make a movie with Sohail Khan. He asked Sohail to produce it under his company and to get Salman Khan as the hero."
Apart from these, Govinda also opened up about nepo kids, credited his mother for how far he has come, and more. On the other hand, Chunky also discussed Bhavana Panday's 'lady luck' in his life.
Govinda calls wife Sunita Ahuja 'child of the family'
Showering praise on his wife, Sunit Ahuja, Govinda described, “She is a child herself. My children handle my wife as if she’s a child. Sunita is like a kid, but the responsibilities that she was given, she could manage our household only because she is what she is. She is an honest child. Her words are never wrong. It is just that she says things that she shouldn’t (smiled)."
