Mohanlal's Udayananu Tharam is among the Malayalam films that will be having a theatrical release again this year. The movie, which is directed by Rosshan Andrrews, is still revisited by many for its narrative and performances.
The comedy-drama, which was a box office triumph in 2005, will return to theatres on June 20. Fans of the Lucifer star, as well as aficionados of Malayalam cinema, are expected to appreciate it enthusiastically once more. Chotta Mumbai, another popular film by Mohanlal, was set to hit theatres again on May 21. However, Thudarum's successful run in theatres was said to have caused a delay in the film's re-release. A handful of films, like Devadoothan, were re-released in 4K last year, and the audience responded favourably.
Featuring Mohanlal in the lead role, this blockbuster is among the best Malayalam films ever made about cinema and the hard work behind this art at its centre. Rosshan Andrews made his directorial debut with the film, which was written by Sreenivasan. The actor also portrayed the infamous character Rajappan, who is later known as superstar Saroj Kumar, which led to a number of hilarious scenes in the film. Manorama Max is streaming Udayananu Tharam, which also starred Meena, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salimkumar, Mukesh, Bhavana and Cochin Haneefa in significant roles.
The difficulties faced by Udayabhanu, an assistant director who wants to become a director, are shown in this comedy drama. However, a cunning friend and a wanna-be actor named Rajappan Thengamoodu foils his efforts by stealing his screenplay in order to play the lead in a film and become Saroj Kumar, the superstar. But later on, Udayabhanu succeeds in making a movie with him, which causes a lot of problems for the both. The main question of the film is whether Saroj Kumar would learn from his mistakes and give Udayabhanu the recognition he deserves.
In the Udayananu Tharam's spin-off Padmasree Bharat Dr Saroj Kumar, Sreenivasan plays Saroj Kumar again.
