Udhayanidhi Stalin acquires distribution rights of Vikram's Cobra

One of the most awaited action thrillers of Chiyaan Vikram, Cobra, is all set to hit screens on August 11. The latest update about the film is that Udhayanidhi Stalin's production house Red Giant Movies has acquired the distribution rights of the film. Udhayanidhi shared on his micro-blogging page, "Thrilled to announce that #RedGiantMovies have acquired the Tamil Nadu Theatrical Distribution rights for #ChiyaanVikram’s #Cobra 🎉 SAVE THE DATE ➡️ #CobraFromAugust11🥁 #CobraWithRedGiantMovies @7screenstudio @Udhaystalin @ajaygnan @arrahman @irfan @srinidhi @kalaignartv_off (sic)."

The film's director, Ajay Gnanamuthu, had recently shared the announcement of the release date on his micro-blogging page, on his social media page, "#COBRA - WORLDWIDE THEATRICAL RELEASE ON AUGUST 11 🔥#CobraFromAugust11 ➡️ https://youtu.be/-ahWqhAW7_Q #ChiyaanVikram An @AjayGnanamuthu Film🎬 An @arrahman Musical🪗 @7screenstudio @IrfanPathan @SrinidhiShetty7 @roshanmathew2 @SonyMusicSouth (sic)."

Cobra has ensemble cast that includes Srinidhi Shetty, Miya George, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kaniha, Roshan Mathew, Sarjano Khalid, Mrinalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindarajan, KS Ravikumar, Babu Antony, Poovavaiyar and Mohammad Ali Baig. While the film marks the debut of Srinidhi Shetty in Tamil (though the dubbed version of K.G.F was released earlier), it also marks the debut of veteran Malayalam actor Mamu Koya in the Tamil film industry. Interestingly, former cricketer Irfan Pathan will also make his acting debut in the film. Music is by AR Rahman, cinematography is by Harish Kannan and editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan.

Ajay Gnanamuthu, who is known for films like Demonte Colony and Imaikka Nodigal, had thanked the entire team after the shoot was wrapped, "He posted, "IT’S A WRAP!! Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end!! My sincere thanks to #ChiyaanVikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me and believed in the vision of #Cobra !! Forever indebted to each one of u! (sic)."

Produced by Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, in association with Viacom18, Cobra went on floors in August 2019. The film is expected to have a pan-India release.
