UI OTT tentative release date is here: Upendra’s directorial headed to streaming on THIS date?

UI, Real Star Upendra’s return to direction after nearly a decade, had a lot of positive buzz surrounding it prior to its theatrical release. Expectations were high of an Upendra directorial, and the actor-filmmaker had stoked that with news of how he was utilizing technological advancement to the best of his capabilities to present an entertaining film. However, when UI came out, it left audiences divided – one set sticking to the narrative by the film team that it was only meant for those who’d really put thought to what he was trying to say and the other that did not much like Upendra’s Prajakeeya ideologies adapted for the big screen.

UI to follow in Max's footsteps?

The film had released in theatres on December 20 and had a decent opening, but then saw a sharp decline once Kiccha Sudeep’s Max came along 5 days later. The film’s satellite rights had, reportedly been picked up by Zee Network and while the makers had claimed that the digital rights were being sold elsewhere, sources suggest that the film will be on Zee5 only. In fact, there was a promo for the film’s TV premiere, but no date was forthcoming, and a few days later, there was a similar announcement for Max.

Sudeep’s film came out on February 15, with a new release strategy, wherein the satellite and OTT outings would be on the same day and time. This was then followed for the Telugu film Sankranthiki Vastunam as well and sources tell OTTPlay that it will be the case for UI also. It is now heard that the Upendra film will likely get a festival release, with Ugadi being heard for its TV premiere. While the network is yet to confirm this, March 30 is when UI is said to be dropping, with a prime-time slot.

UI, meanwhile, had Upendra in double role – Satya and Kalki – in a dystopian world. The film followed the ideological differences between the siblings and explored the consequences of misuse of power, technology and knowledge.
