Avika Gor has had an eventful year in the Telugu industry with multiple releases as an actor, producer in the digital space and on the big screen. She bankrolled Popcorn earlier this year and starred in two Telugu OTT shows - Mansion 24 and Vadhuvu, both streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. After Vadhuvu (a Telugu remake of Bengali show Indu), the actress is back in another remake.
The actress is teaming up with a young actor Anuragh for a film titled Umapathi, the Telugu remake of the Tamil hit Kalavani. Satya Dwarapudi is directing the same while K Koteswar Rao is bankrolling the film under Krishi Creations. Avika is also collaborating with Krishi Creations as a co-producer for the year-end release. Umapathi is all set to hit screens on December 29.
The trailer of the film was launched yesterday, promising a fun rural entertainer to audiences, offering a dose of slapstick humour, romance and action. Umapathi revolves around a rift between two villages and how far a happy-go-lucky youngster goes to marry his lady love Uma. While the no-brainer style comedy isn’t finding takers in Telugu cinema lately, the film still has enough elements to woo family crowds.
Fidaa fame Shakthikanth Karthick, who last worked on Srinivas Avasarala’s Nootokka Jillala Andagadu, is the composer for the rural saga. Chandrabose, Murthy Devagupthapu, and Bhaskarabhatla are the lyricists. The supporting cast comprises Posani Krishna Murali, Thulasi, Praveen, Auto Ram Prasad, Trinadh, Srimannarayana, Bhadram, Srinivas, and Jayavani.
Umapathi was one of veteran technician Gowtham Raju’s last films as an editor (along with Nani). NN Raghavendra Kumar cranks the camera for the entertainer for which A Venkateshwar Rao is the art director. Vallam Kaladhar is the dance choreographer. Multiple Telugu films are releasing in the same weekend as Umapathi including Devil, Bubblegum, Currency Nagar, Sarkaaru Noukari to name a few.
