Unni Mukundan’s debut production Meppadiyan is all set to drop on OTT platforms after its successful run in the theatres. The movie, which is directed by debutant Vishnu Mohan, had hit cinema halls on January 13, even as other films had delayed its release due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Kerala.
The film, which reportedly has raked in a profit of over Rs 4Cr according to industry sources, revolves around an automobile mechanic named Jayakrishnan, played by Unni Mukundan. The film focuses on a series of challenges – from government authorities to loan sharks – he has to face after he decides to purchase a piece of land along with an acquaintance.
Apart from Unni Mukundan, the film also has Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Anju Kurian, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kottayam Ramesh, Nisha Sarang, Indrans and Kundara Johny in pivotal roles.
The film recently became the first Malayalam movie to be screened at the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020. Unni, who had attended the film’s screening in the UAE, also announced that Meppadiyan will release on an OTT platform soon.
We have now learnt that the movie will stream on Amazon Prime Video from February 18. Unni, meanwhile, was also part of two direct-to-OTT releases since the pandemic. He was part of Ravi K Chandran’s Bhramam, which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy, which dropped on Disney+ Hotstar on January 26. The actor’s next film, 12th Man that has Mohanlal in the lead and is helmed by Jeethu Joseph, is also rumoured to be a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar.
