In his latest Facebook post, Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has criticised students who ridiculed a visually challenged teacher in a video that surfaced on social media.

The actor expressed his admiration for the lecturer, saying that the latter might have faced several obstacles in his life to reach his current position, which is something that everyone in society respects.

Unni condemned the act of the students in the video and said that they should have shown respect to their teacher instead of mocking him. The Malikappuram actor also told the students to quit their studies and make a living on their own if they could not respect their teachers.

The Maharajas College controversy

Maharajas College in Ernakulam suspended six students after a video of them insulting a visually challenged lecturer surfaced on social media. The video shows students attending a class without listening to the lecture and a girl moving a chair in the direction of the lecturer. Six students, including a student political leader, were suspended on charges of mocking the visually impaired teacher.

Action was taken against students Muhammed Fazil, Nandana Sagar, Ragesh, Priyada, Aditya, and Fathima Naflam after a complaint by the teacher in question, CU Priyesh. Priyesh called the incident an unfortunate one and said that the students should realise their mistake.

When Unni's outspoken nature made headlines

Unni's outspoken nature has made headlines before. Recently, an audio clip of him reacting harshly to a YouTuber who gave negative reviews about his film Malikappuram went viral. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his Hanuman Jayanthi post was mocked by his co-star Santhosh Keezhatoor, who asked if Hanuman could save mankind from the virus. Unni hit back, asking Santhosh not to make such comments and lose his value.

Unni's last film to hit theatres was the 2022 film Malikappuram. The film is an action-adventure drama that revolves around the journey of a young girl, Kalyani, who visits the Sabarimala temple.

Malikappuram received positive reviews and was a success at the box office.
