Unni Mukundan’s Shafeekkinte Santosham wraps up its Kerala shoot, next schedule planned in the UAE

The first schedule of Unni Mukundan’s Shafeekkinte Santosham wrapped up on Saturday. The movie, which is helmed by Anup Pandalam, will next resume in the UAE in the coming weeks.

The comedy entertainer, which has Athmiya Rajan and Divya Pillai as its female protagonists, went on floors in Erattupetta on April 16. The movie marks Unni’s second venture as a producer after Meppadiyan, which hit theatres in January this year.

While Unni plays the titular character in Shafeekkinte Santosham, which is also scripted by Anup, it has an ensemble cast featuring Shehin Siddique, Mithun Ramesh, Sminu Sijo, Boban Samuel and Jordi Poonjar. Eldho Isaac is the cinematographer of the film, which is touted to be a “fun, realistic movie”, according to its makers.

One of the highlights of the upcoming movie is that close to 100 theatre artistes are also part of Shafeekkinte Santosham. The team had a small wrap-up party of its Kerala schedule on Saturday that had Unni, Divya, Shehin and Bala celebrate the occasion with the rest of the cast and crew.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Unni had said that a key reason for him turning producer was to back films that he believes are good. The actor said that there is a perception within the industry that he can only do action roles and that Meppadiyan was the first step in proving them wrong. In Shafeekkinte Santosham, the actor will be seen handling a comedy role, which again is a space that Unni hasn’t explored much in his career.

Meanwhile, the actor is also part of several exciting movies that are coming up. His next release will be the Jeethu Joseph directorial titled 12th Man, which has Mohanlal in the lead. Unni plays the role of Zakariah in the film, which will release directly on Disney+ Hotstar on May 20.
