Ustaad out on OTT: Where to watch Sri Simha Koduri, Kavya Kalyanram’s film

Ustaad is a coming-of-age saga headlined by Sri Simha Koduri, son of composer MM Keeravaani, who debuted with Mathu Vadhalara and impressed with his performances in Dongalunnaru Jagratha, Tellavarithe Guruvaram. He is paired opposite Masooda, Balagam fame Kavya Kalyanram in the feel-good film written and directed by first-time filmmaker Phanideep.

The entertainer is produced by Rajani Korrapati, Rakesh Reddy Gaddam and Himank Reddy Duvvuru under Vaarahi Chalana Chitram and Krishi Entertainments. The film released in theatres on August 12 in the same weekend as Bholaa Shankar and Ustaad. After a modest run at the box office, the film premiered on OTT today. Amazon Prime Video acquired the digital rights.


The leading streamer decided to premiere the film this Friday i.e. September 1. The film tells the story of Surya, a youngster living in a suburb outside Hyderabad, who loses his father early, and is raised by his mom. He experiences the first brush of freedom through a second hand bike. He falls in love with Meghana soon. How far will he go to overcome his fears and succeed in life?

Post its theatrical release, the audiences were in praise of the performances of Sri Simha Koduri, the cinematography and the music but were critical of the slow narration.'s critic wrote, “The film struggles to keep you invested in the protagonist’s journey despite the impressive performances, visual detailing and technical finesse.”

Gautham Vasudev Menon, Anu Hasan, Ravindra Vijay, Venkatesh Maha, Ravi Siva Teja, Sai Kiran Yedida essayed supporting roles in the film. Pavan Kumar Pappula is the cinematographer for Ustaad while Carthic Cuts is the editor. Aravind Mule is the production designer and Priyanka Veeraboina designed the costumes. Anantha Sriram, Rahman, Lakshmi Priyanka wrote the lyrics. Sony bagged the music rights.
