Vaa Vaathiyaar, the Karthi-starrer film which was supposed to have released in theatres in December, will be now capitalising the Pongal festive period. The makers of Vaa Vaathiyaar announced the release date on social media. It will now hit theatres on January 14.
Vaa Vaathiyaar release date: When is Karthi film releasing?
Vaa Vaathiyaar is an upcoming Tamil comedy drama starring Karthi in the lead role. The film was slated for a December release. But the last-minute financial struggles had let down the release plans. It is to be noted that the makers of Vaa Vaathiyaar had financial issues with the Madras High Court asking the producers to pay Rs 21 crore to release the film. In the latest, the court had issued directions for public auction of Vaa Vaathiyaar's rights to recover the money.
Now with Jana Nayagan vacating from its Pongal release plans due to the ongoing censorship row, the Karthi-starrer will be taking up the slot. The film will hit theatres on January 14, taking up the festive period. The film is billed to be a comedy drama with Karthi playing the role of a cop. It is directed by Nalan Kumarasamy.

Vaa Vaathiyaar marks the first collaboration of Karthi and Nalakumasamy. It will be the Tamil debut of actor Krithi Shetty, with the cast also comprising of Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anand Raj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, PL Thenappan, Vidhya Borgia, Nivas Adthitan, Madhur Mittal and others.
Vaa Vaathiyaar revolves around an old man who is ardent fan of MG Ramachandran and raises his grandson doting after him, thinking that he is the reincarnation of the veteran star. But when the grandson grows up to become a fun-loving cop, his grandfather sees him very different from MGR, causing a rift between the two. The technical crew consisting of cinematographer George C Williams Isc, music composer Santhosh Narayanan, and editor Vetre Krishnan. Prime Video has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights.
