Actor Karthi and director Nalan Kumarasamy’s Tamil film Vaa Vaathiyaar had hit theatres for Pongal on January 14. The release plans were sudden, after it was postponed in December and took up the festival slot soon after Jana Nayagan got pushed indefinitely. While Vaa Vaathiyaar had opened to underwhelming response, the theatrical run did not last for long either. Within two weeks, the film made OTT debut.

As per Sacnilk, Vaa Vaathiyaar is closing its box office collection with Rs 11 crore as its worldwide collection, making it one of the lowest grossing films of all time for Karthi. The film has also received negative reviews from critics despite its potentially good concept. Paired with the success of Jiiva's Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, Vaa Vaathiyaar could not stand a chance to make it big in its two-week theatrical run.
