Vaadi Vaasal makers on Ameer - ‘He is an irreplaceable actor in the film’

In the past few weeks, Tamil cinema audiences have been witnessing the war of words between Green Studios producer KE Gnanavel Raja and director Ameer, with the industry taking sides in the ongoing controversy surrounding the Karthi starrer 2007 film Paruthiveeran’s making and release.

Many prominent directors - like M Sasikumar, Sudha Kongara and Samuthirakani - have come out in support of Ameer. However this has given rise to speculations about the Paruthiveeran director’s presence as a cast member in Suriya’s upcoming film Vaadi Vaasal. In the latest development, Vetrimaaran’s team has reconfirmed the news through a post on his production house’s official handle. 

Director Ameer to star in Vetrimaaran’s Vaadi Vaasal

Vaadi Vaasal, directed by Vetrimaaran, features Suriya in the lead. Reports suggested that due to the debate over Paruthiveeran, which starred Suriya’s brother Karthi in his debut, it is unlikely that Suriya and Ameer will be sharing screen space. However, quashing all those rumours, Vetrimaaran’s banner Grass Root Film Co recently uploaded a picture of the two directors who are seen discussing something. 

The caption of the post read, “Director Vetrimaaran met Director Ameer to discuss his role in Vaadi Vaasal. The prominence of his role in the script has increased during the writing process and is tailor made for Director Ameer. He is irreplaceable as an actor in the film.” This post confirms the news that the Paruthiveeran director will indeed be part of Suriya’s upcoming film.

Vetrimaaran on casting Ameer

The Viduthalai director said that Ameer will be doing a pivotal role in the film. “When he played Rajan in Vada Chennai, I thought I would give him some input. When casting him in Vaadi Vaasal, I knew that if I was inside the house, he would give me a lot of input,” the filmmaker elaborated.

Vaadi Vaasal marks Vetrimaaran’s first collaboration with Suriya

Vaadi Vaasal is Vetrimaaran’s first collaboration with the Jai Bhim star. The film is said to be an adaptation of CS Chellapa’s Tamil novel of the same name. The director, in an interview, revealed that Suriya has been rearing a bull in his house to get into the skin of the character. “I am the only one who hasn’t really spent time with bulls. I think the shoot is likely to begin by the end of this year,” the Vada Chennai director added.
