Vaadivaasal update – Suriya and Vetrimaaran’s period drama to start rolling by mid-2024

Vaadivaasal, the highly awaited project is set to mark the first onscreen collaboration of Suriya and filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The movie, which is touted to be period drama, was originally announced in December 2019. But the ambitious project of the National award-winning actor-director duo was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple lockdowns, and logistic issues. However, Vetrimaaran recently confirmed that the Suriya starrer is indeed set to go on floors soon.

Vaadivaasal to start rolling by mid-2024

In a recent chat with a leading media, the celebrated filmmaker confirmed that Vaadivaasal is indeed set to go on floors very soon. Vetrimaaran confirmed that Suriya and he are planning to kickstart shooting for the magnum opus, immediately after the release of his eagerly awaited upcoming project, Viduthalai Part 2. The renowned director is planning to solely focus on the period drama after the theatrical release of the Soori starrer, which is slated to release by the end of 2024 first quarter.

Suriya’s preparations for Vaadivaasal

For the initiated, Vaadivaasal revolves around the traditional sports event Jallikattu, which is practiced widely on the Mattu Pongal day, every year. Interestingly, Suriya has undergone intense Jallikattu training for the perfection of his characters in Vaadivaasal, which features him in a double role. The actor even adopted a Jallikattu bull that originally performed the sport and have been practicing with him, for quite some time.

The same bull is expected to share the screen with the National award-winning actor in Vetrimaaran’s film. A special video, featuring Suriya and the bull, was by the makers of Vaadivaasal, released last year. Along with the intense Jallikattu preparations, the leading man is also set to sport two unique looks in the movie, which features him in the role of a father and son.

Vaadivaasal: Cast and crew

Along with Suriya, the Vetrimaaran directorial is expected to feature actor-director Ameer and Andrea Jeremiah in the pivotal roles. The rest of the star cast of the movie is yet to be revealed. GV Prakash Kumar has been roped in to compose the songs and original score for the period drama. The magnum opus is produced by senior filmmaker Kalaipuli S Thanu, under the banner V Creations.
