Writer, director Vamshi Paidipally, who carved a niche for himself in Telugu cinema with hits like Brundhavanam, Yevadu, Oopiri and Maharshi, returned to the Tamil industry for Varisu, teaming up with Vijay. Produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film was dubbed into Telugu as Vaarasudu and released in theatres worldwide on January 14. Rashmika Mandanna, Jayasudha, Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Srikanth and Shaam too essayed crucial roles in the film.
While the Tamil version released in theatres a couple of days earlier on January 11, Vaarasudu was pushed to avoid a clash with Telugu biggies Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy for Sankranthi. S Thaman scored the music for the family drama, which beyond the lead cast, also featured prominent names like Sangeetha, Nandini Rai, Yogi Babu. Leading OTT platform Amazon Prime Video has acquired the streaming rights of Vaarasudu.
Vaarasudu is now out on the streamer, much to the delight of audiences. The Tamil version turned out to be a huge hit at the box office despite a tiff with Thunivu at the ticket window. The story revolves around how the youngest son in a family, who cuts ties with his near and dear, salvages the future of a huge company owned by his father and resolves several issues in the lives of his brothers. Many compared the film’s theme to Maharshi and Ala Vaikunthapurramulo.
Karthik Palani cranked the camera for the project which had production design by the late Sunil Babu (who also worked with the director for Maharshi before). Ranjithame, the dance number from the film, continues to be among the most streamed songs across several music streaming platforms. Ramajogaiah Sastry penned the lyrics for all the songs in Vaarasudu. With its huge star cast and popular names in the lineup, the film is expected to grab eyeballs on OTT as well.
