Tamil superstar Dhanush seems to be all set to score another box office hit. The star's latest movie Vaathi/Sir had an impressive run at the box office, despite the trade pundits predicting a dull performance. The producers, Sithara Entertainments, on Monday pegged the film's 3-day worldwide gross at Rs 51 crore.

"#Vaathi #SIR grosses 51 crores in just 3 days Best ever opening for our Star @dhanushkraja #Vaathi #SIR tops Monday's test results as expected 'D' Rampage continues," tweeted Sithara Entertainments.

Written and directed by Venky Atluri, the film marked Dhanush's debut in Telugu. The Telugu version titled Sir exceeded the expectations of many by performing well at the box office. It's touted to be a 'dream launch' for Dhanush in Telugu cinema.

The trailer received mixed reactions from the audience. And the people in trade were doubtful of the film's ability to draw the audience to the theatres. But, the filmmakers were confident that it will do well.

鈥淚 watched Sir and liked it because of its soul. Education and health are basic amenities, and only education can change the lifestyle of a human being. Venky鈥檚 film asks an important question as to why someone has to be deprived of education due to lack of money. Sir will travel with us for a long time. Dhanush is like a karma yogi who enjoys his work and moves ahead with his best efforts. Sir will be a grand welcome to Dhanush in Telugu cinema," Sukumar, one of the producers, said at the pre-release event of Sir.

Vaathi also stars Samyuktha, Sai Kumar and Samuthirakani in supporting roles.
