The OTT giant has officially acquired the digital rights to the spiritual successor to the 2022 smash, Vadh. With a solid performance at the box office, especially in metropolitan centers and among aficionados of slow-burn suspense, the film debuted in theatres on February 6, 2026. The usual industry window for Bollywood productions is eight weeks after the film's theatrical premiere, and the move to OTT follows suit.
Although it takes place in a prison in Madhya Pradesh, Vadh 2 is not a traditional sequel but rather an independent narrative. The protagonist, Shambhunath Mishra (Mishra), is a low-ranking prison guard on the verge of retirement who makes ends meet by selling vegetables produced in prison on a modest scale without permission.
An inmate named Manju Singh (Gupta) has a sympathetic and platonic relationship with Shambhunath. She has been in prison for 28 years for a double murder that she insists she did not commit. Their usual peaceful exchanges are disrupted when Keshav, played by Akshay Dogra, a violent prisoner with significant political ties, mysteriously disappears from his cell. Officer Ateet Singh (Amitt K. Singh) leads a high-stakes investigation into the tragedy, which uncovers deep-seated corruption and personal grudges.
Jaspal Singh Sandhu is the director and writer of the film. Critics have praised the production elements and the script's focus on characters as its strongest points.
The ensemble cast of Vadh 2 includes Sanjay Mishra as Shambhunath Mishra; Neena Gupta as Manju Singh; Kumud Mishra as Superintendent Prakash Singh; Amitt K. Singh as Inspector Ateet Singh; Shilpa Shukla as Rajni Sharma; and Yogita Bihani as Naina Kumari.
Both the cinematography by Sapan Narula and the score by Advait Nemlekar contribute to the film's claustrophobic and grimy prison setting.
The "righteous take on crime and punishment" and the "natural performances" of the lead actors are some of the reasons Vadh 2 was well-received in theatres. Vadh (justified execution) is a morally grey concept, and the sequel broadens the scope beyond the original's domestic thriller about a middle-class couple on the brink of ruin to examine the shortcomings of the legal system.
Considering the film's specialised genre and emphasis on older heroes, its low box office result of around ₹4.66 crore was seen as a triumph. A larger worldwide audience that was unable to attend the restricted theatre release is anticipated to see it when it arrives on Netflix.
