Love is in the air, in that morning call you unknowingly make to each other, in that cup of coffee he made for you, in that silent ‘I am there’ whenever anxiety hits your doors, and in the butterflies when either is about to go on their knees to propose. The latter is the moment all of us treasure for life. Even when there is a speech ready to give and expressions rehearsed forever, everything just blurs out and the moment of truth arrives. You say yes, tears roll down, speechless, everything prepared goes down the drain, and only love lingers. Bollywood, in a way, has truly ruined us hopeless romantics who have probably set the standards too high in our minds. And the proposals, we all know a movie we want to recreate.

The world celebrates the day of love today. Valentine’s Day is about the promise two people in love make, and love is abundant everywhere you go in the city today, making all of us feel so good. Over the years, films have set some very unbeatable standards when it comes to love, which cannot be easily beaten, but what is the harm in building a fantasy world where someone might actually put their life in danger just to tell you how much they love you? So today, at OTTplay, we thought to list down some very memorable proposals from Bollywood.

So below is a list of some iconic proposal scenes from modern-day Bollywood movies. The first one is the most tragic; please do not follow, but the sheer wildness of it is what made us include it in this list. So read on and get into the feel-good world of films and probably get some ideas to tell them how much they mean to you.

Merry Christmas

Cast: Vijay Sethupathi, Katrina Kaif, and ensemble.
Director: Sriram Raghavan.
Streaming On: Netflix (yet to release)

We decided to keep the most surprising and tragic for the first because it is that great a scene to be precise. Imagine the mystery of the biggest crime investigation about to unfold. A man in love with a woman decides to do something so wild just to convey to her that he loves her. No words said, no expressions exchanged, just a ring slid onto the finger right before doomsday comes for him uninvited. Sriram Raghavan gave Bollywood one of the most haunting proposals ever. You guys, please recreate any other sane proposal but not this.

3 Idiots

Cast: Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and ensemble.
Director: Rajkumar Hirani.
Streaming On: Amazon Prime Video.

Guess we just ended up creating proposals that should actually be tried in the ideal world. But then we mentioned fantasy before, so we are safe. Imagine your friends kidnapping your lady love from her wedding, clueless about where you are, and bringing her to you just to try the collective luck of the group. Isn’t this insane? Well, Kareena gets to know she is about to marry a man with Wangdu as his second name. We hope your man has a better second name at least.

Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein

Cast: R Madhavan, Dia Mirza, Saif Ali Khan, and ensemble.
Director: Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Streaming On: Jio Cinema.

Nothing even comes close to the lover boy postcard Maddy created years ago with the backdrop of the bustling city. Reena and Maddy’s wasn’t an ideal love story, but it was theirs, and that is what made Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein such a beautiful film for years and is still very much a strong cult. All you boys have dreamt of Reena running towards you in the bronze-gold wedding lehenga at least once. At least don’t lie to yourself.

My Name Is Khan

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and ensemble.
Director: Karan Johar.
Streaming On: NA.

Do you really think this feature could even exist without Shah Rukh Khan being mentioned in it? The OG Loverboy has given variations in how to propose, but let us talk about the most vulnerable, heartfelt, and moving out of those. I know you will all scream Veer Zaara, but imagine a man who is already battling a physical condition, and has fought all his feelings about staying away from people to be close to this one woman he has fallen madly in love with. He waits all night for the first rays of sun to appear and she makes the moment the most beautiful for him. isn't that is what love all about?

Tamasha

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and ensemble.
Director: Imtiaz Ali.
Streaming On: Netflix.

Where there is a Shah Rukh Khan teaching us to fall in love on screen, there is an Imtiaz Ali guiding through the process from behind the camera. Tamasha was much more than just being a love story, but love was the guiding force of this story. Ved met himself through Tara, and that is the most karmic and beautiful moment in the movie. So when he met her again to propose in a country far from home, he had to be the person she fell in love with and now continue to be him when they go back home. Tamasha will always be a special film.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Cast: Imran Khan, Genelia D’Souza, and ensemble.
Director: Abbas Tyrewala.
Streaming On: Netflix.

Let’s be very honest. All you girls have obsessed over Imran Khan much more after this scene. You all want a Jai to run towards you on a fully functional airport and sing that song for you. Well, our security will probably shoot him for real, or the next meeting you guys will have will probably be in the jail meeting rooms. But for the film, this is one of the most precious scenes ever created in Hindi cinema and there can never be a replacement.
