Ever since Amazon Prime Video dropped an unseen footage from Thalapathy Vijay's Pongal release, Varisu, fans have been on an overdrive circulating the same on social media. Vijay plays the son of business tycoon Rajendaran (Sarath Kumar) in the film, who takes over the empire and fights against the family's arch rival Jayaprakash (Prakash Raj). In the scene, Vijay Rajendran (Vijay) is seen meeting Jayaprakash at the latter's office and urging him for help. However, when Jayaprakash doles out a condition for the same, Vijay immediately goes on a rampage. The scene is now doing its rounds on social media.

In the meantime, Varisu has become one of the most streamed movies on Amazon Prime Video. The film, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, began screaming on the platform from February 22. The platform dropped the unseen footage and captioned it, "there you go! an exclusive unseen footage from #VarisuOnPrime to pump up your adrenaline! (sic)." Varisu, which hit screens on Pongal, has set the cash registers ringing at the box office.The film's plot revolves around a business magnate's trial to find the prodigal son to take over his empire.

The film has an ensemble cast comprising Vijay, Rashmika Mandanna, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Shaam, Srikanth, Jayasudha, Yogi Babu, Ganesh Venkatram, SSJ Suryah, VTV Ganesh, Sriman, Sangeetha Krish, Samyuktha to name a few. Music for the film is by Thaman. While the cinematography is by Karthik Palani, editing is by Praveen KL. This is Vamshi Paidipally's second film in Tamil after Thozha (2016), which starred Nagarjuna, Karthi and Tamanaah.

The satellite rights of the film have been sold to Sun TV and the dubbed version of the film in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi dropped on Amazon Prime Video. The film is bankrolled by Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema. Varisu hit screens along with Ajith's Thunivu, an action entertainer helmed by H Vinoth and bankrolled by Boney Kapoor.
