When Vijay's Varisu hit screens for Pongal on January 11, the film's runtime spanned around 2 hours 50 minutes. The family drama-cum-action entertainer was dubbed to be too long by many and some even likened it to a TV soap. The film's director Vamshi Paidipally had then hit out at them and had said that making films was not a joke and that why should one degrade TV serials as they too are major sources of entertainment. Now we hear that the director's cut of the film is 4 hours long!

The plot revolves around a business tycoon Rajendaran (Sarathkumar) looking for a worthy successor among his three sons, Jay (Srikanth), Ajay (Shaam) and Vijay (Vijay). Some of the portions that have been chopped include the entire portions of Khusbu Sundar, a flashback sequence between Rajendaran (Sarathkumar) and Jayaprakash (Prakash Raj), who play arch business rivals in the film, Vijay meeting Jayaprakash at his office and Jayaprakash apologising to Rajendran towards the end. The scenes were removed to ease the flow of the film in the final cut. The uncut version which includes these scenes will span 4 hours. Since the portions starring Khushbu did not make it to the final cut, fans wondered why the actress was missing and had even asked the makers about it. In the meantime, fans are asking Vamshi to release the uncut version from the film.

The editing for Varisu has been handled by Praveen KL. While the music is by Thaman, the cinematography is by Karthik Palani. As for the box office collection, Varisu is going strong at the box office and it is said that the film is marching towards Rs 200 crore. In the meantime, the bookings are going steady in theatres.

Varisu released along with Ajith's Thunivu and fans of both the actors had a gala time as their films were clashing after a span of 8 years.
