From its poster, teaser, and trailer releases, there were a lot of expectations riding on Varun Dhawan's last release, Bhediya. The film, which also stars Kriti Sanon, was released in theatres in November 2022, but it received a tepid response.

The film eventually released on OTT — on JioCinema — and is finally finding the audience that it couldn't in movie halls.

Varun, whose performance in the film was appreciated even though the film didn't manage to impress, recently spoke about his state of mind after Bhediya's dismal reception.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Varun, who is currently promoting his film Bawaal, which also stars Janhvi Kapoor, confessed that he had huge expectations from Bhediya.

Revealing how he felt once the film didn't do well in theatres, Varun said, "You pick yourself up and move on. You have to hit back; you can’t sulk."

The actor added that he took a few days, but then went straight back to work.

Saying that he was surprised by the studio's decision to do a sequel to Bhediya, Varun added, "With Bhediya, my expectations were huge. However, the film found its audience on OTT, and three months after the release, the studio surprised me with the news that there would be a sequel."

Before signing off, the actor said that he loves his character in Bhediya and that he is really looking forward to playing it again.

Bhediya is available to stream on JioCinema.

Bawaal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Anjuman Saxena, and Mukesh Tiwari. It will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting July 21.
